You may be wondering why it is Friday, and there are no yummy hand dyed yarn or fiber pictures. Well, I’ve been a little busy. My husband has been away taking some classes, so it seemed the best time to have some fun and make over our bedroom. It is so much easier to do if the furniture is not in the room, and it just seemed nice to not make him sleep in the living room.
Why the need for this makeover, you may ask…….
This wallpaper!!!! Giant foam roses and leaves all over the place, and pastel city. Definitely does not go with my black and red Japanese stuff. I lived with it for a year and a half while I revamped some more public areas of the house, but it must go.
It didn’t want to go, however. Very tenacious paper. I scheduled one day to get the paper off and the walls scrubbed (I’m hearing singing…… ‘three hour tour, a three hour tour…’) but it instead turned into three days of very hard work. I finally had to peel each stinking rose and leaf off by hand, then I could get the paper soaked enough to get off. The crew below helped me quite a bit. They were very interested in spraying, scraping, destroying, and being allowed to make a huge mess by throwing pieces on the floor. The novelty of being able to stand on a ladder was compelling, also.
Here’s a bit of home archeology for you. Our home is a late 50’s cross between a ranch and a chalet (?!?!!!!), and was decorated in the favored colors of the time, turquoise and dusty pink. The bathroom still has the pink fixtures and turquoise tile (I’m getting those puppies sprayed white as soon as I can afford it!!), the undercoatings of all the other rooms (and the inside of the kitchen cabinets) is dusty pink, and it seems our bedroom used to be turquoise. Oh my eyes. Someone saw the light and repainted most everything cream.
I got some primer up yesterday, and will be doing paint today. I’ll pop up a pic of the finished product next week, and maybe some fiber pictures, too. I have some I dyed ahead so I could work on this project, but I’ve been too involved with wallpaper destruction to do pictures.
